The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw) is an independent research institute in the field of applied economic research focussing on Central, East and South East Europe. The institute has been operating successfully for over 50 years and enjoys an excellent international reputation. We offer our clients and stakeholders economic studies, forecasts and economic data.

To strengthen our team of economists, we are currently looking for an Economist specialised in macroeconomics or fiscal policy.

Main Tasks

  • Widen our expertise on fiscal policy and its macroeconomic implications in Europe as part of a growing research group

  • Do applied empirical research in the context of a new project on the distributional and employment effects of fiscal policy

  • Develop and conduct your own research in macroeconomics or fiscal policy

  • Contribute to bringing our research findings into the public debate

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in economics (or related fields of study; e.g. political economy)

  • Pronounced interest in empirical research

  • Skills in econometrics/quantitative research methods

  • Previous research on macroeconomics or fiscal policy is desirable but not strictly necessary

  • Excellent command of English

  • High capacity for teamwork

  • Interest in economic policy debates

  • Language skills in German are not required but helpful

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as they are received. Potential invitations for job interviews may be issued before the  application deadline.

Initially, the contract will be for a fixed term of 24 months, but the appointment could be made permanent (subject to a satisfactory probationary period). Monthly remuneration (14 times per year), for a 40-hour week, will be € 3.579,- gross or above, depending on qualifications and experience.
