About us

With more than 50 years of experience, the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw) is one of the principal centres of economic research into Central, East and Southeast Europe (CESEE). We have expanded our work on European integration issues more generally to encompass not only the CESEE EU member states, but also developments in the EU and in the broader Europe and its neighbourhood. We also cover a wide variety of issues surrounding international economics. Our overall thematic research extends to macroeconomic analysis, international economics, labour markets, regional analysis and industry studies. Research projects are commissioned by national and international clients and emerge from applications to research funding agencies.

Our focus

Why does wiiw play such a unique role in understanding the European integration process? Who are its international partners? What has the war in Ukraine changed? Watch our film documentary, produced on the occasion of our 50th anniversary.
